Hi,
Just back from a walk down to the beaver pond with the dogs. While the four of them went for a swim, I was reflecting on the rural nature and beauty of the Northern Neck, remembering watching the baby birds learning to fly in the meadow a couple days ago, remembering in this heat how especially beautiful the day lilies have been in that last hour before sunset, and Oh!, remembering how Sunday night our goat got loose and butted his reflection in the glass of the front door. Oh!, tempered plate glass leaves such a mess.
Summer has come with a vengeance, but at Good Eats we’re ready for it. With the heat comes a bounty, the summer produce is here now, and we’ll be using it to help keep you cool.
First up we’ll be using local cukes to make
Chilled Cucumber Soup with Dill
Next we have the first tomatoes of the season, which we will be marinating, then combining with basil, these really good French cured olives, toasted pine nuts and fresh mozzarella to make
Linguine with Shrimp in Marinated Tomatoes
Then we have last weeks hit
Grilled Tuna with a Preserved Lemon Aioli
and also, our local
Soft Shell Crabs with Lime Butter Sauce
On to some business. We will be closed on Sunday, July 4th, but will then be re-opening on Monday the 5th. As usual on Mondays we will be serving sandwiches and other light fare in addition to our regular menu. And as the guy who in performing the chefs duty of checking his work ate both a crabcake sandwich and a soft shell crab sandwich last Monday, I can tell you with certainty, … we got this sandwich thing down now.
Tonight is Prime Rib Night, Friday we offer half-price bottles of wine, and Sunday features Henny Penny.
The a/c is cranked, things are cool, and
We hope to see you.
