Hi,

Well as expected the blueberry pie was a huge hit. So this week, we’re on the same path; made several pies yesterday, there’s plenty for everyone, come and get it.

The specials we ran last week were also very popular. We think they’ll be just as good when the temperature is under 100 degrees, or even under 90, which is what is forecast for this week-end.

The soup this week is

Corn and Crab Chowder

Specials are

Risotto with Crab on Crab
a soft shell crab with backfin crabmeat, slow-roast tomatoes, grilled corn and fresh mozzarella

&

Grilled Salmon with an Heirloom Tomato and Pickled Ginger Salsa, topped with Basil Vinaigrette

&

Soft Shell Crabs with Lime Butter Sauce

We have worked out all the kinks of being able to offer sandwiches in addition to our regular menu, so we are now going to be offering our Casual Cafe menu on Sundays as well as Mondays.  Oh of course Henny Penny will still be available on Sundays. Tonight is Prime Rib night and Friday we offer half-price bottles of wine. Which reminds me that again this week we will be offering the Vinho Verde from Portugal, a light and refreshing wine with a hint of sparkling effervescence as well as the Urban Sauvignon Blanc from Argentina.

Last but I’m guessing not least, we are going to take the next step in evolving our reservation policy, so Saturday this week we will be accepting reservations for groups of 4 or larger. Please do not e-mail with a reservation, it’s not dependable. Call Good Eats at 804-472-4385 if you would like to make a reservation. We’re still beta testing the whole thing, but if we all work together on this, in time it will be applied across our entire schedule.

Hi,

The good news is we finally got some rain.

The great news is that the rain made our blueberries swell up enough that we could pick them and make blueberry pie. A lot of blueberry pies, actually, made 8 of them yesterday, with plans to make more tomorrow and Sunday. Which means that we won’t be running out this week. Come and get it.

Our soup this week is a nod to the expected weather, a

Chilled Cucumber with Dill.

Our featured special is one of the most popular summer dishes we do,

Risotto with Crab on Crab

a soft shell crab with backfin crabmeat, grilled corn and fresh mozzarella. We will also have

Grilled Salmon with an Heirloom Tomato and Pickled Ginger Salsa, topped with Basil Vinaigrette,

as well as

Soft Shell Crabs with Lime Butter Sauce.

The service staff got together yesterday to sample some wines to pair with summer food and chose a real interesting wine from Portugal for us to special this week, a Vinho Verde, which is light and refreshing, with just a touch of sparkling effervescence. That, together with the Kluge Albemarle Rose which is on the wine list, gives us a complement of wines that are just the ticket on these hot summer days.

Tonight is Prime Rib night, Friday features half-price bottles of wine, Sunday night Henny Penny is available and Monday night features the sandwiches and other light fare of Casual Cafe.

I end with a huge thank you to those of you who have had the wisdom to see through my public personal travails since Sally’s death. Those of you who have offered the stories of your own family’s disintegration and anger. Those of you who search me out, look me in the eye and assure me it will get better. Through my tears now I want you to know that it is because of you that Good Eats Cafe continues and I cannot thank you enough for your support.

all the pure flavors of summer, and then the croutons absorb the broth and feel like little pillows.

The heat seems to be backing off a bit, which is nice, but we’re ready for it anyway.

Hi,

Welcome to the 4th of July week-end and especially welcome to the nice weather we earned by suffering through all that heat.

We will be open tonight for Prime Rib night and Friday for half-price bottles of wine. Saturday night we are going to try something that we have never done before and that is to accept reservations for any size group. Do not send an e-mail to make a reservation, call Good Eats at 804- 472-4385 to make a reservation. Again, reservations for any size group. SUNDAY we are CLOSED for the 4th of July, and then back open on Monday, with sandwiches and other light fare available in addition to our regular dinner menu.
